ELECTROLYSIS NUMBING CREAM

Electrolysis treats one follicle at a time, often for an hour or more. Compound BLT gives an approximately 15-minute onset and 2 to 4 hours of working time, so clients stay comfortable through long clearing sessions. For licensed providers and the electrology practices they supervise.

WHY ELECTROLYSIS IS DIFFERENT

THOUSANDS OF INSERTIONS, ONE SESSION

Unlike laser, which treats an area pulse by pulse, electrolysis places a fine probe into each follicle and applies current there. Comfort has to hold for the whole session, not just the first few minutes.

LONG SESSIONS

Clearing sessions on the face, underarm or bikini line can run an hour or more. A 2 to 4 hour working window covers them.

SENSITIVE AREAS

Upper lip, chin and bikini are among the most requested areas and among the most sensitive. Those are where topical numbing earns its place.

EVERY MODALITY

Galvanic, thermolysis and blend all insert a probe into the follicle. Numbing is applied and removed the same way whichever method you use.

Triple-agent BLT with a 2 to 4 hour window. The usual choice for facial and underarm work.

BENZOCAINE-FREE

ELITE

Lidocaine 30% + Tetracaine 7% for clients who react to benzocaine. Tetracaine is still an ester, so screen for ester sensitivity generally.

PROTOCOL

ELECTROLYSIS APPLICATION

  1. 1

    CLEANSE AND DRY

Clean the treatment area and pat it dry. Intact skin only: skip areas with irritation or breakouts.

  2. 2

    APPLY TO TODAY'S AREA

Rub a thin, even layer into the area you will clear this session. Leave it uncovered; do not wrap or add heat.

  3. 3

WAIT ABOUT 15 TO 20 MINUTES

Use the time to set up and review the treatment plan while the compound reaches working depth.

  4. 4

    REMOVE BEFORE THE FIRST INSERTION

Wipe the cream off completely and cleanse per your protocol so each follicle opening is clean for the probe.

LARGE AREAS: WORK IN SECTIONS

The FDA advises against heavy application of topical anesthetics over large areas, wrapping treated skin, or adding heat. For legs, back or full bikini, numb only the section you will clear that day.

NO TOP-UPS ON TREATED SKIN

Follicles that have just been treated are no longer intact skin. Plan the session around the numbing window rather than re-applying partway through.

FAQ

ELECTROLYSIS NUMBING QUESTIONS

What numbing cream is used for electrolysis?+
Many practices under medical supervision use a compounded BLT (Benzocaine 20% + Lidocaine 10% + Tetracaine 10%) before electrolysis. It starts working in about 15 minutes and gives 2 to 4 hours of working time.
How long before electrolysis should it be applied?+
About 15 to 20 minutes before the first insertion, on clean, intact skin. Remove it completely before you begin.
Does it work for long clearing sessions?+
Pro covers roughly 2 to 4 hours and Ultra roughly 3 to 5. Plan the session to fit the window instead of re-applying to treated skin.
Can electrologists order MediCaine?+
MediCaine is supplied only to licensed providers and dispensed after NPI verification. Electrology practices order through their licensed provider or medical director. Call (310) 889-0733 with questions.
